Jade Alice | Heartbreak Club music video

"For Heartbreak Club, I was inspired by witchy films like The Craft and our own bush-gothic Picnic at Hanging Rock, but also Care Bears, because I love the way they glow and sparkle and look out for each other.” - Meg Duncan

Jade Alice is enthusiastic about life in general, but as her about her latest track continues to enjoy love from listeners, she's particularly euphoric.

The Heartbreak Club music video is about daydreamers and deep-feelers, where crushing on people has more to do with the act than the subject. It’s about the hunt, immersing yourself in emotions fully and daring to walk the line between total control and spontaneity. Imagination is a powerful tool, and when paired with softness and openness a person finds themselves equipped with an unspoken connectedness to the world. There’s nothing stronger than a broken woman who has pulled herself together, and so ‘heartbreak’ is a blessing in disguise, the ‘heartbroken’ the strongest of us all.

We wanted to play with gaze in our clip; make it seem like the girls were obsessed with boys when really they were obsessed with the idea of hunting boys, moreover hunting and power generally, and specifically the Greek Goddess of hunting (among other things) Artemis.

Sharing her own thoughts on the track, Alice explains:

"The video was shot at my old high school, and the kids were all real students that I went to school with! We shot the archery/bush scene at the Kew City Bowmen Archery Club. It was my first time shooting a bow and arrow so I had a lesson with the Archery Club legend Rob! The take we ended up using was one where I hit a bullseye without even knowing. It was dark and we had thick haze effects and lights, so I couldn’t really see where I was shooting, but it ended up hitting the middle of the target!"

An ethereal video to match Alice's airy, captivating voice, Heartbreak Club has crammed a lot into 4.13 minutes, but it pulls it off with ease. A relative newcomer to the music scene, the success of her latest ventures coupled with a clear songwriter prowess, it seems clear that Jade Alice is one to watch.

My EP is called Fantasy because that's exactly what it is to me, when I close my eyes this is the music I hear."
